With the land of snow and ice some 50 miles away, Robin Greiner, with his partner Carol Ormaca Butler, reigned supreme in United States figure pairs ice skating for four years.

The Fresno pair were the U.S. Champions from 1953-1956.

The combination was a member of the World Team for three years, taking fourth place in Oslo, Norway, in 1954; fourth place in Vienna, Austria, in 1955 and fourth place in Garmisch, Germany, in 1956. The skating pair represented the United States in the Winter Olympics of 1956, placing fifth at Cortina, Italy.

Robin was born in San Jose and received his early schooling in Fresno, graduating from Fresno High School in 1950.

His first skating experience was right here in Fresno. After attending Fresno City College and Fresno State College, he transferred to the University of California Berkeley where he got a taste of top skating and he took the challenge and became one of the country’s greatest.

He still skates regularly on the local rink with the express purpose to help the young skaters coming up, in the hopes that once again a top ice skater will come from this section of the country.
